Zlatan Ibrahimović set to renew with Milan for another season

Various outlets in Italy including Gazzetta dello Sport and Sky Sport are reporting today that Zlatan Ibrahimović is set to sign a contract extension with Milan within the next ten days.

The 39-year-old, who last month made his return to the Swedish national team after a five-year absence, will remain in Lombardy for an additional season. The renewal will see the forward earn around €7m for the year.

Ibrahimović had returned to the Rossoneri midway through last season nearly eight years after his last appearance for the club, making an instant impact with 10 goals in the second half of the season. This campaign, the Swede has been a crucial part of Milan’s title challenge, as the club’s top scorer in the league with 15 goals despite missing large parts of the season through injury.

His teammates have also been outspoken on the striker’s role on and off the pitch as a leader of an otherwise young squad, his experience proving to be a crucial asset for Milan since his return.

With the club’s top scorer staying on, Milan are also looking to being in an additional striker in the upcoming transfer window – with Fiorentina’s Dušan Vlahović at the top of the list, according to Gazzetta dello Sport. La Viola would not accept under €40m as a transfer fee for the Serbian, although the striker’s salary would be far lower than that of his Swedish counterpart.
