Atalanta have now released a statement in response to the racist abuse suffered by Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly.
The Partenopei beat Atalanta pretty convincingly on Sunday but later in the game, the Napoli skipper Koulibaly was racially abused by La Dea fans. Senegal’s football federation has already released a statement criticising the actions of the fans who abused the defender.
Atalanta have also released their statement on the case, stating that the club is strongly opposed to behaviour that is not in line with the values of the club.
The statement said: “Atalanta BC communicates that any behavior not in line with the principles of civility and values which have always been pursued by this club will be strongly opposed. We do not want, and we underline it, to give visibility to subjects that have nothing to do with our environment and, therefore, without clamor or generalisations , we will act in the competent offices so that the image of the club and of the city of Bergamo are protected.”
This is not the first time that sections of Atalanta fans have dealt with racist abuse, as Dalbert and Dusan Vlahovic have also been racially abused in the past.
