Atalanta intend to sell Merih Demiral amid interest from Premier League clubs

Merih Demiral might not play in Italy next season, with several Premier League clubs contemplating signing the Turkish defender in the summer.

A report from La Gazzetta dello Sport claims that Atalanta will sign Demiral on a permanent deal sooner rather than later. And following that purchase, they will evaluate the offers for the defender. Several Premier League clubs are understood to be interested in signing the 24-year-old this summer.

Demiral joined Atalanta from Juventus last on a season-long loan deal with an option to buy. The report believes that the entire figure concerning the deal between the two Italian clubs was around €28million. La Dea will pay the Old Lady €25million to sign the defender on permanent terms this summer.

It is not as if Demiral has not fared well at Bergamo. Instead, he was one of the promising players for Gian Piero Gasperini’s side this season.

But Atalanta want to sell the defender to make some profit, which will be re-invested in building a formidable team for the next season. In the 2021/22 campaign, the centre-half played 42 matches for the Serie A outlet, having racked up two goals and three assists.
