Chelsea and Manchester City keen on Milan’s Rafael Leão

Manchester City and Chelsea are two of the European heavyweights showing a keen interest in signing Rafael Leão from Milan.

According to what is reported by Daniele Longo, the €7 million that Jorge Mendes asked for Rafael Leão’s contract renewal from the Rossoneri management could soon witness a steep rise, with Chelsea and Manchester City keeping a close eye on the forward.

Chelsea made a last-ditch offer of around €90 million to lure the Portuguese away from the Rossoneri on the final days of the summer transfer window.

The report understands that Milan are awaiting Red Bird’s green light before initiating talks over the player’s renewal with Mendes. It is estimated that Leão’s new contract at the Italian club could include a salary of around €8-€9 million.

One of the principal backroom staff at Milan, Paolo Maldini has already told the 23-year-old about the club’s willingness to extend his contract for a longer term.

Having garnered three goals and six assists from eight appearances in all competitions, Leão has begun the season in an outstanding manner. Under the current terms, he is bound to the reigning Serie A champions until June 2024. While Milan want to extend his stay, the situation will ultimately depend on Red Bird’s action.
