Chelsea and Milan yet to hold Rafael Leao talks as Serie A champions look to keep player

Chelsea are yet to hold any talks with Milan for Rafael Leao and the Rossoneri absolutely want to keep the player at the club.

La Gazzetta dello Sport have reported about the situation of Leao, following claims from The Times about the Blues holding talks for the Portuguese. The Italian outlet claim that Chelsea never called Milan and the Serie A champions do not want to sell the player, who is said to be happy in Italy.

A potential move for Chelsea will be very complicated due to the unusual situation of the player’s situation. Leao, as per court decision, has to pay €16.5 million to Sporting Lisbon for the unilateral termination of the contract in 2018. Lille are entitled to 15 percent of the selling value. On top of that, the winger is on board with two powerful representatives.

One is Jorge Mendes and the second one is a powerful French lawyer who is close to the player’s father. It is expected that these complicated themselves will demand about €35 million from a buying club at this point.

Milan will only agree to sell the player in case of a massive offer that would have to be in the triple figures. Mendes has previously spoken to Chelsea about Leao and has guaranteed Milan that an offer could come. And as the Cristiano Ronaldo saga from last summer shows, anything can happen in the late stages of the window. But as things stand, an exit for Leao is very unlikely.
