Ex-Milan boss set for Sampdoria return

Former Milan manager Marco Giampaolo is now set to return to become the manager of another one of his former clubs in Sampdoria.

La Gazzetta dello Sport claim that Samp have now decided to sack Roberto D’Aversa, just a day after rivals Genoa did the same with Andriy Shevchenko. The last three performances have left the club’s management very disappointed and they have no choice but to sack the ex-Parma boss.

Giampaolo was linked to the role by Sky Italia as well, as they also reported that D’Aversa was on the verge of the axe. But GDS state that the move for Giampaolo is about to take place and his first game as the club’s new manager could take place in their upcoming Coppa Italia clash against Juventus on Tuesday evening.

Giampaolo was sacked by Milan after a short spell and he was replaced by Stefano Pioli. Before that, he had impressed at Samp. Most recently, he had a brief stint with Torino.
