Georginio Wijnaldum close to joining Roma after one season at PSG

Former Liverpool midfield star Georginio Wijnaldum is closer to joining Roma after spending just one season at Paris Saint-Germain.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Roma general manager Tiago Pinto is rigorously pushing for the arrival of Georginio Wijnaldum at Roma. The chief wants to conclude the deal as early as possible.

The report claims that Jose Mourinho seeks the player’s availability before Roma’s next friendly against Shakhtar Donetsk. He wants him to be ready for the Giallorossi’s Serie A curtain-raiser against Salernitana.

As such, Pinto is trying to get Wijnaldum to the Roman city as soon as tomorrow. Roma have reportedly agreed to pay €5 million of Wijnaldum’s salary of €7.2 million. The rest of the amount will be paid by the Ligue 1 club.

Having renounced bonuses of at least €1 million, the 31-year-old will understandably join Roma on a season-long loan plus an option to buy.

However, it is suggested that the final details regarding the deal will emerge once the transfer is finalised. Nonetheless, the midfielder’s arrival at Roma looks imminent.
