“I prefer to let the pitch speak,” Napoli star Alex Meret hits back at critics

Napoli‘s cult hero Alex Meret has admitted that he only focuses on performances and lets his actions talk for him.

Speaking to Radio Kiss Kiss (via CalcioNapoli1926.it), Alex Meret shed light on the heavy criticism he had received for his blunders in the previous seasons. He said:

“I don’t have many words, I prefer to do facts. I prefer to let the pitch speak. The summer was not easy for me, many market rumours followed each other. However, I wanted to concentrate only on the pitch. Only work pays and gives results. Now I’m happy with how the season started.”

The Italian goalkeeper was guilty of leaking savable goals last season, leading him to face intense criticism from the media and general fans. In the 2022/23 season, he has made a bright start, keeping four clean sheets from eight appearances in all competitions.

In the summer transfer window, Napoli were linked with several goalkeepers, including Paris Saint-Germain’s Keylor Navas. But with Aurelio De Laurentiis failing to match the financial demands of the Ligue 1 champions, the deal for Navas never went over the line.
