Inter boss “not confident” about Romelu Lukaku’s recovery

It has been almost two months since Romelu Lukaku, on loan from Chelsea, has featured in an official Serie A game for Inter.

When it was expected that he would return to action after the international break, it is now unlikely that he will be back for Inter’s next league fixture against Sassuolo.

Speaking to the media after Inter’s 2-1 defeat to Roma, the Nerazzurri boss Simone Inzaghi expressed his disappointment at the pace of Lukaku’s recovery from injury. As quoted by Tutto Mercato Web, the former Lazio boss said:

“There is some hope for Sassuolo, but I’m not confident. There was a slowdown, after the exam, [it became obvious that] he could not train in a group.”

Since re-joining Inter from the Premier League club, the 29-year-old Belgian has notched up one goal and one assist from three appearances in all competitions. On the back of a humiliating defeat to Roma, Inter next play Barcelona in the midweek. In the absence of the former Manchester United striker, Inter have lost three and won two matches in Serie A.
