Ligue 1 club Nice sign Mattia Viti on a 5-year deal from Empoli

Mattia Viti will leave Italy to kick off his career in France in what is considered a bold move from the 20-year-old centre-back amid the summer transfer market.

Transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Nice have agreed to sign Empoli youngster Mattia Viti for a fixed transfer fee of around €13 million plus €2 million in additional bonuses. The player will undergo his medicals on Tuesday.

The Italian club has reportedly included another option which will provide Empoli with 10% of the transfer fee in the event of Viti’s future resale.

The report claims that the youngster has signed a five-year contract with the French side, where he will be earning a salary of around €1.3 million (including bonuses) per season.

Viti joined the Empoli academy at the age of eight. Emerging through the ranks, the player made his professional debut in a Coppa Italia game against Renate in 2020. Since then, the defender has made 26 senior appearances for Gli Azzurri.

At such a budding age, Viti needs more game time to develop his trade in the professional circuit. Ligue 1 has turned into a factory of nurturing raw talents in recent years. Moving there could help the youth sensation realise his potential.
