Liverpool make inquiry for Juventus’ Matthijs de Ligt

Juventus are in no mood to sell Matthijs de Ligt amid the reports of Giorgio Chiellini’s potential depature from the club this summer.

According to journalist Mirko Di Natale, Liverpool have recently shown interest in signing Matthijs de Ligt from Juventus but are unlikely to match the Old Lady’s asking price of €125million for the Dutchman. As per the claim, Liverpool label the price tag as very high in the current market.

Juventus see him as one of their most important players in the defence, especially on the back of reports confirming that Chiellini will leave the club in the summer.

Signed for Juventus in 2019, De Ligt made a slow start to his left in Turin, initially receiving criticism for his defensive errors. But nowadays, he is considered one of the best defenders in Serie A.

The 22-year-old has made 40 appearances across all competitions. As things stand, the Dutchman’s contract at Juve expires in June 2024. But the growing interest in the defender has led the Juve management to consider binding the defender to a contract extension.
