Matthijs de Ligt’s agent explains why he left Juventus for Bayern Munich

Matthijs de Ligt parted ways with Juventus in the summer transfer window of 2022 in an abrupt manner. It was quick and precise from Bayern Munich as they paid €67 million to attain the services of the Dutchman, who once looked settled in Turin.

Speaking to Sky Sport Italia, De Ligt’s Brazilian agent Rafaela Pimenta said that De Ligt had felt that it was the right time to make the transfer, not because Juventus were not competitive enough but to embrace his ambitions.

Pimenta also backed his client while suggesting that De Ligt had not criticised Juve but had only shared his experiences. She said:

“He (Matthijs) said, ‘it’s my time.’ From the beginning, he had a project in his head, and he felt it was time to go. He is always grateful. I don’t agree when they say he criticised Juve, because that’s not what he did. He gave his technical opinion about himself and the balance of his experience.”

Since moving to Bayern Munich, the 23-year-old has questioned Juve’s playing style under Massimiliano Allegri. He even claimed that the way of playing football at the Italian club was rather defensive. After getting rid of the former Ajax captain, Juventus went on to sign Gleison Bremer from Torino.
