Napoli identify a replacement for MLS-bound Lorenzo Insigne

Amid uncertainties over his potential replacement at Napoli, Lorenzo Insigne will join Toronto FC on a free transfer this summer.

Today’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Napoli could be interested in keeping Gianluca Gaetano at Naples for the next season. The Naples-born youngster joined Cremonese on loan from Napoli in the January transfer window of 2020.

In the following summer, his loan got an extension as he went on to play out the entirety of the 2020/21 season in Serie B. Last summer, he returned to Napoli and had played only two games for the Parthenopeans before returning to Cremonese on a season-long loan deal.

This season, Gaetano has notched up seven goals and four assists from 32 league appearances for the current league leaders in the second tier of Italian football. The report understands that he might not be an immediate hit at Naples but could follow the path of Insigne, who had loan spells to Foggia and Pescara before returning to Naples and proving his worth.
