The ideal relationship “probably over” between Napoli president and coach Spalletti

With Napoli swallowing the bitter pill of defeat against Fiorentina over the weekend, this season’s Scudetto may have lost its potential suitors from Naples.

According to a report from La Gazzetta dello Sport, the perfect relationship between Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis and the head coach Luciano Spalletti is possibly over. But it also claims that there is no hint of separation yet in the air.

Replacing Gennaro Gattuso, Spalletti became the manager of the Naples-based side in 2021. Over the few months, the Italian manager has made some massive improvements in the different areas of the pitch, making Napoli a potential title contender in the process.

But following their recent decline in form, Napoli may have fallen too far behind other Scudetto aspirants such as Milan and Inter. Once lauded as “the best coach I’ve ever had” by De Laurentiis, Spalletti may have lost his employer’s conviction to a certain extent. But the report suggests that he is likely to remain at Napoli’s dugout next season.
