Napoli have been banned from wearing the shirts with the effigy of late Argentinian football legend Diego Maradona.
According to La Repubblica, Napoli will no longer be able to use the effigy of Maradona on their shirts.
The decision was made by the judicial administrator Jorge Sebastian Baglietto—on the recommendation of judge Paolo Andrea Vassallo of the second civil section of the court of Naples—to protect the interests of the five children of Maradona in the dispute with the entrepreneur from Stefano Ceci, the legal representative of the Diez Fze (a Dubai-based company).
Following a deal agreed between the Italian club and Ceci after the death of Maradona, Napoli reserved the rights to use the picture of the late Argentinian legend in their jerseys last season.Â
As per the judge, the contract—agreed between the Serie A side and Ceci for a fee of around 23 thousand euros—was “detrimental to the patrimonial expectations” of the children of the former Pibe de Oro.
The judge ordered that Maradona was “a planetary symbol of football, recognized and recognizable all over the world, whose economic value appears to be of considerable importance, almost inestimable.”
