Napoli to sell error-prone goalkeeper, seek cover for former Arsenal star

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is reportedly willing to shake up the goalkeeping department of the club, with dark clouds of uncertainty hovering over the future of Alex Meret.

In today’s La Gazzetta dello Sport, it has been claimed that Napoli want to get rid of Alex Meret in the upcoming summer transfer window, with the report suggesting that his recent mistake against Empoli led the club hierarchy to decide on such a radical resolution.

Meret’s departure could reportedly emerge as a blessing in disguise for the former Arsenal star David Ospina, with the Colombian now hoping to reach an agreement with the club over his contract renewal at Naples. The club is now ready to offer him a net salary of €2.2millon per season.

An early sale of Meret, who has his contract at Napoli extended until June 2023, will require Napoli to bring in a cover for Ospina. The report understands that the Naples-based side has been keeping an eye on their academy graduate Luigi Sepe, who is currently on loan to Salernitana from Parma.
