OFFICIAL: Roberto de Zerbi leaves Shakhtar Donetsk

Former Sassuolo boss Roberto de Zerbi has now left Shakhtar Donetsk following his contract terminated some days ago.

Last week, Gianluca di Marzio had reported that De Zerbi was about to have deal at the Ukrainian club terminated and now, the side have confirmed the same.

The club have confirmed on their website that the manager will now leave the club after just a single season, which was largely disrupted by the war in the country involving Russia. Di Marzio has claimed that it was De Zerbi himself who decided to get his deal terminated, as he looks for new clubs.

A club statement reads: “Roberto De Zerbi has led Shakhtar since 25 May 2021 and has become the 34th manager in the history of the club. The team together with the Italian manager only managed to play 30 competitive matches: W 20, D 5, L 5 (total goal difference: 64–26)”

“Shakhtar FC would like to thank Roberto De Zerbi and his technical staff for the work done , the professionalism and the results achieved by the team. We wish you success in your future career, new victories and great results! “.

Shakhtar also thanked the Italian for having stood alongside the Ukrainian people during the war situation, while also thanking the manager for having won a trophy with the club.
