Rafael Leao happy to sign Milan deal despite Chelsea interest

Milan star Rafael Leao is currently willing to sign a new deal with the Rossoneri despite Chelsea’s attempts to sign him late in the summer.

Paolo Maldini had publicly stated yesterday that Chelsea had only made an informal attempt to sign Leao and nothing formal was proposed to the Rossoneri.

La Gazzetta dello Sport state today that Milan had made it clear that they want potential suitors to pay Leao’s release clause of €150 million and that is a sign of how much they want to keep hold of the Portuguese. RedBird are considered to be hard negotiators and they are not willing to let the player leave.

That is why Paolo Maldini wants to make sure that Leao signs a renewal and his words also echo the fact that even the player wants to stay and sign a renewal. The issue currently is the gap between Milan’s offer and Leao’s demand.

Jorge Mendes has made it clear that Milan will have to pay €7 million to seal the new deal and the Rossoneri will also have to pay the compensation which has come about as a result of the legal case involving Sporting and the player. But Milan are not keen on doing that.

But a good will remains between both parties regarding an extension.
