Roma keeping close eyes on several free-agent defenders

Roma look interested in strengthening their defensive department further, with issues over fitness plaguing the depth in the respective area.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Forza Roma), Jose Mourinho has grown desperate about bringing in a central defender.

The ex-Real Madrid manager has been requesting a defensive addition for months, given that Mourinho’s side seemingly lacks the much-needed cover in that area.

And now, following the 4-0 humbling against Udinese on Sunday, Mourinho’s concerns have tickled the ears of Tiago Pinto. But with the transfer window closed, Roma could only sign someone on a free transfer. Fortunately, the market has some reliable names to offer.

Former Napoli man Nikola Maksimović is considered one of the favourites among the free agents currently monitored by the Giallorossi. The list also includes Dan-Axel Zagadou, Jason Denayer, and Luca Ceppitelli. The report also claims that Roma will be able to land Ola Solbakken in the approaching January transfer window as he will be released by Bodø/Glimt in December 2022.
