The numbers behind Nicolo Barella’s excellent Serie A season

Despite a difficult stint of form last year under Inzaghi at the helm, Nerazzurri midfielder Nicolo Barella has been in astounding form so far this season, continuously proving that he is arguably the best central play-maker within the top-flight Italian league.

After a rough start to this year’s campaign, Inter currently find themselves within 6th place with a total of 24 points, only one point away from fourth-placed Roma and eight points adrift from the league-leaders Napoli. According to statistical reports from FBREF, Barella is within the 93rd percentile of midfielders in terms of assists with a rate of 0.27 assists per game. In addition,  the box-to-box midfielder is also within the 93rd percentile of midfielders based on progressive passes with a rate of 5.45 per 90 minutes.

Furthermore, Barella has put his clinical goal-scoring abilities to full-display scoring a series of astonishing goals that require a full range of finishing techniques within his heavy artillery. His creativity and fluidity within the final third of the pitch has enabled him to enter the 89th percent tile of midfielders in regards to shot-creating actions with a rate of 3.89 per fixture.

Within quite a short amount of time, Barella has demonstrated his world-class ability to be reliable choice within the three-midfield formation deployed by Inzaghi. The dynamic midfielder has constantly showcased growth in his performances, proving that he has an immense amount of potential in order to set the league alight.
