Since moving to Juventus from Schalke 04 in 2021, Weston McKennie has been anything but consistent with his performances, subsequently getting criticised quite often for blowing hot and cold this season as well.ย
In an interview with Tutto Juve, his agent David Muller admitted that he was not in the best shape against Lecce as he had to come off the pitch at halftime, getting replaced by Nicolรฒ Fagioli, who would go on to win the game for the Old Lady with a beautiful right-footed curler in the second half.
According to his agent, McKennie is โa fighterโ and will come back to his best sooner than expected. Muller said:
โWe have been texting in the last few days. He had been substituted with Lecce because he was not at his best. He is not in shape yet. But Weston is a fighter. the hope is that he will come back sooner than expected.โ
He added:
โWeston can play in multiple positions, and his flexibility can be a great help for the coach. He did that in Schalke too and once again I think itโs a very valuable skill. Personally, I still see him as a number 8, a box-to-box midfielder who excels in the transition phase. Maybe some people donโt see his quality in entering and filling the penalty area. His movement without the ball is classy.โ
Since the start of the season, McKennie, whenever available, has played a role in Massimiliano Allegriโs side, meaning that the manager has not yet lost faith in the midfielderโs abilities. As a result, he has played 16 games this season, garnering three goals and one assist for the Bianconeri across all competitions thus far.
