Agent of Ciro Immobile on Italy contributions: “The boy was mistreated”

Marco Sommella, the agent of Lazio and Italy striker Ciro Immobile, has revealed that the player has been mistreated by the Azzurri and the fans of the national team.

While Immobile did win the Euros with Italy not long ago, he has constantly been criticised by the Italy national team fans. In recent months, Gianluca Scamacca has become more of a regular option in the striker’s role, with Immobile now becoming increasingly sidelined for the Azzurri.

His agent Sommella was speaking to TWM recently and he gave his views about how Immobile is perceived, when it comes to the National Team and how Italy will regret not having him around.

“The boy was mistreated, we had to keep him in a glass case because we don’t have the Lewandowskis, the Mbappes, etc. Ciro also has his faults but if we don’t have an Italian Vlahović, and Retegui will play, there’s something wrong.”

Sommella stated: “Immobile won the European Championship with the national team, the Golden Boot four times in the Serie A. I always tell him that they will regret it when he stops. Italian football is not in good shape.”

Sommella also expressed his belief about Mateo Retegui’s call-up, saying that his call-up shows how Italian football has problems.

“I hope then that Retegui is a Batistuta, but the problem exists. The level of Argentine football is not the same as a few years ago. Many speak very well of Esposito, but you have to have the courage to put him in Dzeko’s place. If he played for Dortmund or Leipzig he would be in the starting lineup.”

Retegui is currently on loan at Tigre from Boca Juniors and this is his maiden call-up for the Azzurri. He has scored six goals for Tigre this season while playing only eight games in the league and that made sure that Roberto Mancini called him up, with Giacomo Raspadori not fully fit.
