The agent of Torino’s Yann Karamoh has slammed the authorities for not taking action against the racist abuse suffered by the player during Il Toro’s recent Serie A clash against Lazio.
Issues around racism involving Lazio have not been a rarity this season and it happened again this past weekend, as Karamoh was subjected to racial chants by a group of Biancocelesti fans. The forward posted a message on Instagram criticising it, but FIGC is yet to take any action against it.
Karamoh’s agent Bruno Skropeta has spoken to Tuttosport (via CM) about the situation and he had some words for the authorities and their lack of action against the incident.
“What happened to Yann on Saturday is simply unacceptable and inconceivable. I am close to him and I am really surprised that the authorities have not yet dealt with this matter. Racist chants are a shame, they mustn’t happen for any reason – neither in Italy, nor anywhere in the world. Football is synonymous with unity and this difference in treatment is not acceptable.”
Skropeta revealed that Karamoh’s Torino teammates have helped him during this tough period but the FIGC has not come forward to help the player.
“Toro have been close to him. These are things that hurt. His teammates have also been close to him, but it is up to the authorities to prevent these events. Yann has received many messages of support and we are happy for this. It means that the there’s a problem. The club is also naturally on Yann’s side, who has put this episode behind him and wants to get back in top form, like before the injury. “
This is not the first time that FIGC has been oblivious to issues around racism. Romelu Lukaku was racially abused by Juventus fans during the Coppa Italia semi-final first leg but no action was initially taken and this left many furious about the authorities seriousness around tackling the issues that matter in Calcio.
