Bayer Leverkusen director Simon Rolfes on Xabi Alonso: “He is happy”

Ahead of Bayer Leverkusen’s Europa League semi-final against Roma, the German club’s CEO Simon Rolfes has revealed that Xabi Alonso is happy at the club and he is happy to stay there.

Alonso’s management of Leverkusen has caught the eyes of multiple major clubs across Europe and that includes the likes of Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur, with the English club actively looking for a new manager for next season, amidst links with Julian Nagelsmann as well.

Rolfes, who represented Leverkusen as a player for many years, spoke to TMW recently and he gave his views about Alonso’s future at the club amidst talk of a potential exit.

Rolfes said: “He has a contract with us, he is happy, he likes working here, he has a good team to develop. Even in the last press conference he said that he is 100% here with his head”

Leverkusen are currently sixth in the Bundesliga table and they have not lost a single game in all competitions since the beginning of March, with Alonso having played a vital role in a stark turnaround of affairs at the club this season. This is the first time ever that they have reached the semi-finals of European competition and that includes the UEFA Cup of the days gone by.
