Everton’s Neal Maupay was close to Serie A switch, confirms agent

Everton’s Neal Maupay could have played in Serie A this season and it is still possible that he plays in Italy from next season, his agent Federico Pastorello has confirmed in an interview for Tuttomercatoweb.

“We held several talks with Salernitana but then he went on signing with Everton”, Pastorello stated.

Maupay joined the Toffees last summer from Brighton & Hove Albion, signing a three-year contract with the option for a fourth year. Salernitana then went on to sign Boulaye Dia from La Liga side Villarreal.

The French striker is struggling in Liverpool as he only scored one goal in 20 Premier League games and he played just 5 minutes in the last two league games.

There is a good chance that he could leave Everton at the end of the season with Pastorello confirming that he might end up in Serie A if the right offer comes in his way.

“A new coach arrived at Everton and we’ll see what to do at the end of the season. He sees Serie A like a place to be and we will work to make him happy. Probably there will be some work for him in Italy”.

Maupay, 26, had made 109 appearances for Brighton during his stay at the Seagulls and he contributed to 34 goals in total, out of which 27 were goals. He has never played in Serie A before he did have a stint in Ligue 1 early on in his career, having played for St. Etienne, Nice and Stade Brestois.
