Former Inter president, Massimo Moratti has likened the impact of Georgian star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia on Napoli, to that of the Brazilian Ronaldo on Inter.
Kvaratskhelia arrived at the Maradona Stadium this past summer from Dinamo Batumi and has made an immediate impact, impressing in Serie A and Champions. Speaking to Radio Punto Nuovo, Moratti compared the Georgian’s impact to that of Ronaldo at Inter:
“Kvaratskhelia like Ronaldo the Phenomenon? They are different players, but the impact was similar.”
Moratti continued to say, “I wish the Georgian to have the same career and explosion of the Brazilian. He will be decisive for the victory of Napoli with his skills.”
This comparison is not ill judged as ‘Kvara’ as he is commonly called, has contributed 11 goals plus assists in just 12 league games. It is similarly lucrative to The Phenomenon’s rise at Inter in the 1997/98 season which saw him with 28 goals plus assists in 32 league games.
The former president went on to say that if he could remove any Napoli player it would be Kvara, along with Victor Osimhen.
“Who would I remove from the Azzurri? The Georgian and the forward Osimhen, without a doubt. They are the two players who more than anyone can decide the match against Inter”.
As Inter and Napoli prefer to face off on Wednesday, Moratti also insisted that a loss for Inter would all but guarantee their departure from the Scudetto fight.
He added finally that in any event, should Inter not win the Scudetto, he would be in favour of the Azzurri claiming the title.
“If Inter slips away, I absolutely sympathize with the Azzurri.”
