Gianluigi Buffon ‘seriously considering’ retirement despite Saudi Arabia offers

Former Juventus and current Parma goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon is seriously considering retiring from the game despite hefty approaches from the Middle East.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via TMW) state today that while Buffon’s current Parma deal runs out in the summer of 2024, the goalkeeper’s future now probably lies away from playing. He is considering retirement rather strongly.

After his injury and fitness issues over the years and an increasing age, Buffon could soon hang up his boots. The veteran has the desire to be spend more time close to his family – his wife and children. The final decision has not been made but Buffon believes that he has some serious reasons to now consider retirement.

Huge offers have arrived from Saudi Arabia but the 45-year-old isn’t interested in listening to them, with his temptations for retirement said to be rather strong right now. If Parma owner Kyle Krause personally asks Buffon to play for another year and fulfill his dream of taking the club back to Serie A, that might be something the veteran pays heed to.
