Italian football can reach new Champions League feat tomorrow

Two Italian sides – Milan and Inter, are already in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League and if Napoli secure their passage into the next round, Italian football could achieve a new feat.

This is the first time in 17 years that both the Milan clubs have reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League, as they beat Porto and Tottenham in the Round of 16. Napoli have a healthy lead over Eintracht Frankfurt and they are expected to reach the next stage as well.

But the last time that three Italian sides reached the quarter-finals was back in the 2005/06 season. The teams involved back then were Milan, Inter and Juventus and the Rossoneri had reached the semi-finals of the competition. This hasn’t happened since and if Napoli beat Eintracht Frankfurt, it will be the first time in 17 years since this will take place once again.

If anything, this is also the first time since 2011 that Inter have reached this far in the tournament and the last Italian side to play in the quarter-finals of the Champions League were Atalanta back in 2019/20, when they had lost to Paris Saint-Germain.
