Luciano Spalletti confirms he will stay at Napoli

Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti has confirmed that he will be staying at the club and the Partenopei would announce the details of the agreement soon.

There were initial doubts about whether Spalletti would sign a new deal at the club or not, but the Italian held a dinner meeting with club chief Aurelio de Laurentiis yesterday and they spoke about the Partenopei’s future, transfers and the project in general. De Laurentiis had proposed a contract extension till the summer of 2025, with Spalletti’s current deal running out in 2024.

Before the press conference for the game against Monza, Spalletti was given a round of applause by the journalists and during the presser, he revealed that talks with De Laurentiis were positive and he is now set to stay at Napoli.

The Serie A winning boss said: “We had a positive meeting with the president yesterday — the future is gonna be exciting, I’m sure of that.”

“They gave me the opportunity to work in a certain way, bringing in young players full of quality and availability. There will be an important future, we can open a cycle with this team. It was a nice evening, the president he always knows how to choose excellent wines, I know little about them. I said what I had to say and I’m satisfied.”

Napoli are currently on 83 points and with four games to go, they could go past the club record points total of 91 points that was achieved under Maurizio Sarri.

Spalletti was asked about it and he said: “It’s a difficult thing. A new thing. We have to alternate celebrations, as it should be, but also play good football as it should be even if we ended this Scudetto discussion early.”

The Partenopei take on Monza tomorrow but then have a game against rivals Inter, who beat them in the reverse fixture after the World Cup ended. They will then take on Bologna and relegated Sampdoria.
