Marcus Thuram on joining Inter: “I hope I can score many goals with this shirt and win a lot”

Newly acquired Inter striker Marcus Thuram is thrilled to have joined the Nerazzurri and is eager to begin working with his new teammates. “I’m really happy to be here, today is a great day. I used to watch Serie A when I was little and I saw lots of champions. Coming to Serie A is like coming home for me,” stated the Frenchman in his first interview as an Inter player after being officially unveiled earlier today.

Following a four-year stay at Borussia Monchegladbach, the 25 year-old has decided to part ways at the end of his contract to join the Benemata on a free transfer, agreeing to a five-year deal worth €6m per season.

Inter have been on Thuram’s trail since January, but lacked the financial resources in order to complete the transfer.  However, with Edin Dzeko having joined Fenerbahce, the Nerazzurri have made enough space within the wage bill to acquire their primary target for the striker position.

Within last year’s campaign, the French international tallied 13 goals and six assists in 30 Bundesliga appearances for former club Borussia Monchengladbach.

While speaking in an interview, via TMW, Thuram reaveled how much it meant for him to follow his father Lillian Thuram’s footsteps in playing within the Serie A:

You will not be the first Thuram to play in Italy. How important was your father’s example and what suggestions did he give you?

“The Italian league has changed a lot since my dad played. But he gave me a lot of advice, like a father: play with joy, take advantage of the moment and enjoy every moment, because my dream has come true”.

You’re back from your best season, you even played in the World Cup final. What do you expect from this adventure in the Nerazzurri shirt?

“I hope I can score many goals with this shirt and win a lot.”

When you were little, Ronaldo was one of your idols. What effect does playing in his own shirt have on you and how much did you get inspired by him?

“It’s a dream to wear the same shirt as him and play in the same stadium. I can’t imagine the emotion I’ll feel when I’m in the stadium with all the fans.”

You’ve already played at San Siro against Inter, how eager are you to play in front of your new fans? Do you have a message for them?

“I watched some videos on YouTube to understand how matches are played at San Siro. I tell the fans to wait for me because I’m coming”.
