Max Allegri after Juventus’ loss to Sassuolo: “We deserved to lose”

Juventus boss Max Allegri has stated that the Bianconeri deserved to lose against Sassuolo, as they fell to a drab 1-0 defeat at the hands of Alessio Dionisi’s Neroverdi.

Sassuolo have now beaten Juve, Atalanta, Roma and Milan in 2023 in what has proved to be quite a turnaround for them after a poor first half of the season. But the loss put Juventus’ chances of qualifying for the Champions League under stern doubt, especially considering that they lost to Lazio in their previous league game as well.

Gregoire Defrel’s goal was a killer blow and after the game, Allegri spoke to reporters (via TMW) about the defeat and he stated that the Old Lady didn’t deserve to win the tie.

He stated: “It worries me in the sense that it was an important step today for the championship and afterwards we made a mistake and deserved to lose. Now we need to roll up our sleeves, prepare for Thursday’s match against Sporting and roll up our wounds and improve.”

He also highlighted some off the issues the side was having in the game, stating that the team was too stationary throughout the 90 minutes.

“We played in a stationary way in the first half, without moving. They came to get us and they were very good. In the second half it could have been better and we suffered in those initial 5 minutes that cost us the game.”

Juve are currently seventh in the Serie A and are now nine points away from fourth-placed Milan. They are also four points behind sixth-placed Atalanta, who play Fiorentina tomorrow.
