Simone Inzaghi will face sack in case of defeat v Benfica

There is a very high possibility that Simone Inzaghi will be sacked by Inter, if the Nerazzurri fail to go past Benfica in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Inter have now failed to win even once in their last five games in Serie A, having recently lost to Monza. La Gazzetta dello Sport state that Inzaghi’s future is hanging by a thread and a failure to go past Benfica will likely lead to his sacking from the club. This will lead to them potentially appointing an interim manager and then making wholesale changes in the summer.

It is also stated that if Inter hadn’t beaten Benfica in the first leg and had lost to Monza, Inzaghi’s time at the club would have been up. But the decent result against the Portuguese side has made sure that he has atleast one game to save his job.

The Inter management is still interested in ending the season with Inzaghi but they are waiting for how things unfold. Results against weaker opposition have led to the management having big concerns about Inzaghi and the next game will be key to his future.
