Max Allegri after Juventus’ win over Udinese: “Chiesa will score 14-16 goals this season”

Federico Chiesa was on the scoresheet for Juventus against Udinese and Max Allegri believes that the Italian will score about 16 goals this season.

Chiesa opened the scoring for the Bianconeri and Dusan Vlahovic got the second. Adrien Rabiot then made it third, capping off an impressive start to the season for Allegri’s outfit.

Chiesa and Vlahovic have been linked with exits from the club but them scoring must have been a pleasing sight for Juve fans. After the game, Allegri spoke to DAZN (via TMW) about Chiesa and he believes that the ex-Fiorentina man will have an impressive campaign.

He said: “In my opinion Chiesa is a striker, then maybe I’m wrong but in my opinion he is a striker. As a winger he isolates himself too much and becomes just a transition player. I think he is improving with Vlahovic, who in that position can improve out of possession phase. Chiesa must be a key player, and I believe he will succeed this year, with 14-16 goals. On the outside it’s a bit reductive.”

Chiesa has been used in a wing-back position by Allegri in the past and that move drew criticism from many over the last few months, leading to doubts about the player’s future at the club. But the fact that the Azzurri star scored while playing upfront is a promising sign and he could perhaps score more often in that role.
