Milan picked up a dominating 4-0 win over Napoli at the Maradona today and while the manner of the victory was shocking, Stefano Pioli believes that the result gives them confidence ahead of the two games in the Champions League coming up.
The two sides take on each other thrice in the space of three weeks and the first encounter in that list saw the Rossoneri blow the Partenopei away. A brace by Rafael Leão and goals from Brahim Diaz and Alexis Saelemaekers saw them register a massive win that puts Milan back into the top four.
After the game, Pioli spoke to DAZN (via TMW) about the result and he stated that it gives them confidence ahead of the two Champions League clashes.
“Certainly today’s victory gives us confidence for the Champions League but they will be different matches. It’s not because we won 4-0 today but that Napoli lost an amount of certainty. We have to insist and we’ll think about facing Napoli in the two matches, I hope with the stature of the game.”
Brahim Diaz had come off in the game due to injury and Pioli revealed further details, saying: “He had adductor discomfort. I preferred not to risk it and I made a good substitution with Saelemaekers.”
Napoli were without Victor Osimhen today and Giovanni Simeone had started but it was their backline that had a torrid evening and Milan will hope to impose a similar result next week.
