Monza owner Silvio Berlusconi: “We want to win the Scudetto next season”

Current Monza and former Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi has stated that the club is aiming to win the Scudetto next season or the season after that.

The Biancorossi are in their first ever Serie A season and their recent win over Juventus meant that they are over Max Allegri’s side in the table. They are 11th in the table, also over Fiorentina and they are only four points behind seventh-placed Udinese, who had started the season in flying fashion.

Yesterday, Berlusconi attended a dinner involving multiple Monza players, coaches and executives and he was asked by the press about the club’s season so far and ambitions for the future.

He stated: “This Monza side is doing a great job. We have important objectives and whoever believes in them wins. We are here with the whole of Monza. If Mr. Palladino had arrived earlier – who took over after Stroppa’s sacking, we would be in fifth or sixth place, more or less around Milan. It is a Monza in which we truly believe and which we want to make even more important.”

The club’s owner stated in much detail: “We want to win it next year or the year after; we intend to win the Scudetto. With Monza we have acquired new players over the years and now, we have also fixed the Stadium with a considerable expense of €25 million. Things have changed. Now over ten thousand people come to see Monza . The perspective is what I told you: we are united, because we must all be united. Whoever believes in it fights, whoever believes in it overcomes all obstacles, whoever believes in it wins. We have to believe in Monza, which must become a big, big club.”

Monza’s next game sees them take on Sampdoria, who themselves are in a spot of bother. A win for the newly promoted side could take them to the top half of the table and that will be an achievement in itself.
