Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali will miss the UEFA Euro 2024 for Italy due to his ban.
The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) announced its decision to suspend Sandro Tonali from all forms of competitive football for a duration of ten months over betting offences. However, he will be available to train with his club and also play friendly matches.
The former Milan man will not only miss the rest of the Premier League season but will also be ruled out for Italy’s UEFA Euro 2024 campaign in Germany. Tonali was regularly called up for the Azzurri and now Luciano Spalletti has a job on his hands to find the perfect replacement for the player.Â
FIGC president Gabriele Gravina declared that the 23-year-old was banned for the next 18 months but eight of those will be rescinded as the player had already started treatment for gambling addiction and that period is reserved for therapy. Furthermore, he would have to make at least 16 public appearances, visiting centres for young players and organisations for recovering addicts.
Newcastle United bought Sandro Tonali from the Rossoneri this summer for a sum of ÂŁ55 million and now they are set to lose him this season. However, The Magpies’ manager Eddie Howe restored his faith in the Italian and said that the club is committed to him for the long term.Â
