Newcastle United yet to make formal offer for Inter’s Nicolo Barella

Newcastle United are yet to make a formal approach for Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella, despite rumours from England suggesting otherwise.

The Telegraph had reported yesterday that the Magpies have tabled an offer for Barella and are closing in on a potential move. Those claims have been refuted in Italy, with La Gazzetta dello Sport stating that Newcastle have used an intermediary to offer a bid for the Italian without being in direct touch with the Nerazzurri.

Corriere della Sera have reported further about the situation today, stating that the rumours from The Telegraph should be taken with a grain of salt. The Magpies have not made any offer for the Italy international and in any case, the ÂŁ50 million fee spoken about will not be enough for the Nerazzurri to sell Barella this summer considering his value and importance to Inter in general.

La Gazzetta dello Sport had reported that Inter consider Barella to be unsellable this summer but Newcastle might come back with more offers soon.
