Nuri Şahin on Jose Mourinho: “He’s a winner, he would do anything to win”

Antalyaspor manager and former Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid player Nuri Şahin has praised Jose Mourinho, highlighting the difference between the Portuguese and Jurgen Klopp.

Mourinho had managed the midfielder during stint at Real Madrid, where Şahin had arrived as a promising youngster but he played only ten times and scored once and assisted once. He had joined the Spanish giants from Dortmund and later had a loan stint at Liverpool, before returning to the German giants on a loan deal and he later returned to Dortmund on a permanent basis.

Şahin spoke to Tuttomercatoweb in an exclusive interview recently and he gave his views about a host of topics. He spoke about Mourinho and his time under the Portuguese as a player.

“It was the most difficult year of my life as a player. I didn’t play, I had injuries, he’s a completely different from Jurgen who I came from having played under. The day I left we talked and what I love about Mourinho is that he’s honest. Direct. He looks you in the eyes and tells you everything. If you’re good, you’re good, if you’re not, you’re not.

“I was young, I was bad at it, I was wondering ‘why are you doing this’? Now that I’m a coach, I understand, I don’t see anything wrong with it. I knew it was going to be tough, it was. It’s easy to manage but he’s always like this. When I watched the Tottenham documentary, I recognized him. He’s a winner, he’d do anything to win.”

Mourinho’s Roma are currently seventh in the Serie A table and recently picked up a vital point in the game against Milan, who were 2-0 up but the Giallorossi pulled two late goals back to remain in contention for the top four race.
