OFFICIAL | Paolo Maldini leaves Milan

Sporting director Paolo Maldini has been officially relieved from his duties at Milan following the conclusion of the 2022-23 Serie A season.

The pair of Massara and Maldini had been in charge of negotiating transfers and signing contract extensions at the club but recent debates with the board surrounding investment strategy and recruitment approach are believed to have set this outcome.

Fans are expected to be bewildered to see their club legend Paolo Maldini leave the club from his technical role. Giorgio Furlani was appointed as Chief Executive Officer in 2022 and is set to play a more active function in negotiating salaries and transfer fees.

The difference of opinion between the laid-off sporting directors with the owners is the root of this termination. Milan legend Paolo Maldini was reportedly noted to be asking for more investment without a clear strategy from the owners and a chain of events ultimately culminated in the sporting directors’ sacking.

Massara hired Maldini as his assistant when Leonardo left the Rossoneri club in 2019, forming the trio with Zvonimir Boban.

However, the recent events will not jeopardise Stefano Pioli’s position as head coach in the club.
