OFFICIAL | Romelu Lukaku joins Roma on loan from Chelsea

Romelu Lukaku has found himself involved in a transfer saga for the third straight summer. The Belgian striker has been officially announced to join Roma for this season. The fee for the loan is just over €9 million. This move comes after Lukaku joined Chelsea from Inter in 2021. The year after he went back to Inter on loan, after falling out with the London club. Lukaku would have liked to go back to Inter this season, but was angered by the decision from Simone Inzaghi to bench him in the Champions League Final. He also infuriated Inter fans when he flirted with a move to big rivals Juventus, and they refused to see him play for the Nerazzurri again.

Suffice it to say that the Belgian has been a controversial player over the last three years. He has always had moments with fans and the media, but he has equally backed it up on the pitch. That’s the reason why he keeps on getting moves to the biggest clubs in Europe. The latest club to try and tame the striker is Roma. Jose Mourinho has been in need of a striker ever since main man Tammy Abraham suffered an ACL injury a few months ago.

Mourinho previously managed the 30 year old at Manchester United between 2017 and 2018, so knows what he is getting from the talismanic figure. Lukaku delivered solid numbers for United during the Mourinho era, but there were constant flutters of a rift between the Portuguese coach and the striker.

Lukaku is the latest signing for Roma in what has been a very busy summer. The Giallorossi are putting out a statement of intent for what they want to achieve this season.
