Roma’s Nicolo Zaniolo handed death threats by fans

Roma’s Nicolo Zaniolo has been issued death threats by a gang of fans that showed up at his house recently.

Zaniolo has refused a move to Bournemouth so far but he had previously refused to be called up to the team’s squad for the Spezia game. Curva Sud recently unveiled a banner criticising the abusing the Italian.

ANSA have reported that on Sunday night, some fans recognised the player and chased him down by car till Casal Palocco. Once they reached him, they threatened the player with abuses and even gave his death threats while they were in the car itself.

Zaniolo, through Roma, asked for the intervention of the police. About 15 people were present as part of a gang that showed up at his house post-midnight and Tiago Pinto later alerted 112. Investigations are now underway to identify the gang members.

In the meantime, another banner was posted at Trigoria which stated: ‘Away from Trigoria men of little importance, cowards and profiteers. Unconditional support only for those who respect our colours’. It is stated that the banner was put up by some other members of the Curva Sud.
