Serie A set for relegation play-off game

Serie A is now set to witness a historic relegation play-off involving Verona and Spezia, as both teams fight to survive in the division.

At the end of their respective last games of the campaign, Spezia and Verona ended up being level on 31 points. Spezia lost late in the game against Roma and Verona conceded two late goals against Milan despite being fairly resolute till it was 1-1.

But now, despite Verona’s superior goal difference, both teams will be involved in a play-off final at the weekend at a neutral venue as the Serie A accounts for head to head instead of goal difference to separate teams and both teams have beaten each other once this season, winning 2-1 each.

Spezia had seen Kelvin Amian get sent off late in the game and they later conceded a penalty, which Paulo Dybala converted for the Giallorossi. That proved vital as Verona had conceded a decisive third goal around the same time, as drama ensued.
