Simone Inzaghi after Interโ€™s loss to Man City: โ€œI wouldnโ€™t trade these players for anyoneโ€

Simone Inzaghi has said he is immensely proud of his teamโ€™s performance against Manchester City, as Inter fell to a 1-0 loss in Istanbul in the Champions League final.

Inter registered more shots on target in the game and registered a higher xG than City. They also had better clear-cut chances but City took their chance โ€“ something that the Nerazzurri couldnโ€™t. It was a performance which showed how far theyโ€™ve come under Inzaghi, who was really proud of the teamโ€™s showing.

He told Sky Italia (via TMW) that he wouldnโ€™t trade these players for anyone else and they should be proud of the performance they put up in Istanbul.

The Italian said: โ€œI complimented the lads, they were great, they played a great match. We lost a final that we wanted at all costs but they must be proud. I wouldnโ€™t trade these players for anyone and today the whole world saw why. We conceded little against a very strong team. There are so many regrets but we must be proud. I gave them a huge hug, like our fans.โ€

He spoke about Interโ€™s season and their excellent journey till the final of the competition, saying: โ€œWeโ€™ve had a great journey but we saw it on the pitch tonight. We all know City. It hurts, the Champions League journey has been exceptional and having played in a final like this, we want to go back, because we have the possibilities to do so. We played 57 games , the route was extraordinary.โ€

Romelu Lukaku had an excellent chance to make it 1-1 at the very end of the game, after he had mistakenly blocked Federico Dimarcoโ€™s shot from close range. Inzaghi also said that they didnโ€™t take their chances and the team deserved to go into extra time.
