Simone Inzaghi after Inter’s loss to Man City: “I wouldn’t trade these players for anyone”

Simone Inzaghi has said he is immensely proud of his team’s performance against Manchester City, as Inter fell to a 1-0 loss in Istanbul in the Champions League final.

Inter registered more shots on target in the game and registered a higher xG than City. They also had better clear-cut chances but City took their chance – something that the Nerazzurri couldn’t. It was a performance which showed how far they’ve come under Inzaghi, who was really proud of the team’s showing.

He told Sky Italia (via TMW) that he wouldn’t trade these players for anyone else and they should be proud of the performance they put up in Istanbul.

The Italian said: “I complimented the lads, they were great, they played a great match. We lost a final that we wanted at all costs but they must be proud. I wouldn’t trade these players for anyone and today the whole world saw why. We conceded little against a very strong team. There are so many regrets but we must be proud. I gave them a huge hug, like our fans.”

He spoke about Inter’s season and their excellent journey till the final of the competition, saying: “We’ve had a great journey but we saw it on the pitch tonight. We all know City. It hurts, the Champions League journey has been exceptional and having played in a final like this, we want to go back, because we have the possibilities to do so. We played 57 games , the route was extraordinary.”

Romelu Lukaku had an excellent chance to make it 1-1 at the very end of the game, after he had mistakenly blocked Federico Dimarco’s shot from close range. Inzaghi also said that they didn’t take their chances and the team deserved to go into extra time.
