Stefano Pioli after Milan’s Champions League exit: “We will do everything to win the Europa League”

Milan boss Stefano Pioli has stated that the club’s goal is to win the Europa League following their exit from the Champions League.

Despite Milan’s first win on English soil since 2005, they finished third in their Champions League group. They found themselves 1-0 thanks to a goal from Newcastle United’s Joelinton, but goals from Christian Pulisic and Samuel Chukwueze completed a impressive comeback.

Since Borussia Dortmund could not beat Paris Saint-Germain, the French side finished second and went through to the next round.

With Milan now in the Europa League, Pioli spoke to Sky (via TMW) and he revealed that they want to win the competition now.

“It’s disappointing to have exited the Champions League given last year’s progress. We knew that the group was difficult, but I’m sorry to have any regrets, we would have deserved more but in the other matches we weren’t able to take advantage of the opportunities we had. Today, however, we have done, it will mean that we will do everything to win the Europa League.”

The under-fire Milan boss was also asked about the regrets he has had so far in the competition and he spoke about the club’s habit of missing chances.

“In the Champions League matches where we created many opportunities and failed to score. Then in the league we had too many ups and downs. We changed a lot, but at the moment the objective in the league is to consolidate third place. Our minimum objective is to return to the Champions League.”

The Rossoneri are third in the Serie A and while their form hasn’t been great in recent weeks, it could have been much worse.
