Why Jose Mourinho could depart Roma this summer

Considering the context of Italian football and where Roma are as a club, Jose Mourinho has done quite a decent job at the club in his stint at the Stadio Olimpico so far.

But the Portuguese comes across as increasingly aloof and frustrated and his words after Roma’s win over Verona were barely a surprise in that regard. He told reporters in the post-game press conference: “We’ll talk at the end of the season, I’ll have many things to say.”

Sky Italia have previously stated that he could leave the Giallorossi this summer and Il Messaggero have now gone on to state the same. Mourinho is not happy with the club’s functioning in the transfer market and the club’s strategies as a whole, having been left frustrated with how there is more emphasis on the business aspects than the sporting ones.

He would only stay at the club if the Friedkins decide to strengthen considerably in the market – something which he pointed to when he spoke about how there are no Cafus, Maicons and Montellas in the team. But it is unlikely that Roma overspend because of their Financial Fairplay restrictions and this makes an exit quite likely.

It will not be a surprise if clubs such as Chelsea, Real Madrid or Paris Saint-Germain approach him in the summer, considering the managerial situations there.
