Antonio Conte rejects initial approach from Roma

Former Tottenham manager Antonio Conte has rejected an initial approach from Serie A side Roma.

Conte hasn’t been with a job since his stint at Spurs ended and he has received interest from Napoli, but he has rejected approaches in favour of his ongoing sabbatical.

It seems as if he has rejected another Italian side. La Repubblica state that despite Jose Mourinho’s insistence on staying at Roma, the club’s owners are keen on making the change at the end of the season and bring in a new manager. They are keen on Conte, with whom direct contact was established.

Roma thought that establishing contact early would give them an advantage over other clubs, but Conte has rejected their approach. He wants to take his time in making the next decision and he believes that the exit from Tottenham was a rather traumatic one and as a result, he wants to make sure that his next step is wise.

Another name that the Friedkins like is that of Xabi Alonso, but the Spaniard hasn’t opened up to the possibility of leaving Bayer Leverkusen.
