Assessing factors that will determine Stefano Pioli’s future in Milan

Stefano Pioli has been linked with an exit from Milan but there is still a chance of him staying at the Serie A giants.

Daniele Longo charts the four key aspects that will ultimately shape the trajectory of Stefano Pioli’s position as the head coach of Milan. The Italian manager’s future has been the topic of discussion for the last few months and with the season approaching its final stretch, Rossoneri officials will be hoping to announce their decision on the matter.

Key figures from the club management such as CEO Giorgio Furlani, advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic, chief scout Geoffrey Moncada and sporting director Antonio D’Ottavio are set to schedule a meeting soon and take preliminary calls on the current head coach’s future.

The primary factor which will decide Pioli’s future is how the club finishes in the league table at the end of the season. Finishing second place will be massive for the Emilian coach as it will certainly play in his favour.

Stefano Pioli has already led his team through to the quarter-finals of the Europa League. While exiting the Champions League was a dent in expectations, Milan face Roma in the last-8 and progressing further into the competition will be crucial for the manager.

Injury problems have plagued the Rossoneri’s season and it is the job of the coach to find a permanent solution to set up his team competitively in such an event. Pioli has been criticised for failing to navigate an injury crisis but has slowly turned things in his way.

Finally, the Milan management will only replace Stefano Pioli if he fails drastically in fulfilling objectives in this campaign and also if they manage to find a better option in the market.
