How Jose Mourinho’s Roma sacking came about

Roma have announced that they will part ways with Jose Mourinho and details have emerged about how the sacking came about.

Roma lost 3-1 to Milan at the weekend and as a result, dropped to ninth in the table after being knocked out of the Coppa Italia at the hands of rivals Lazio.

La Gazzetta dello Sport state that the decision to sack Mourinho was made by the Friedkins overnight. Dan Friedkin arrived in Roma late last night and held a meeting with his son Ryan Friedkin, who was already at Trigoria. They held a meeting which was fairly long.

They made a decision to sack Mourinho, who was told about it in the morning – shortly before the club’s training session began. Mourinho was called into the office by the Friedkins, thanking him in person for what he has done to the club and after that, the announcement was made.

The decision to sack the manager hasn’t come about purely because of the last two defeats and it was weighing on the minds of the owners for some time now. The club are third in the Serie A wage bill and the fact that they are still ninth in the table bothered the Friedkins, who were also annoyed by the fact that the likes of Fiorentina and Bologna are above them in the table.

The Coppa Italia exit was also a vital point of consideration but the Friedkins believed that this might be a good time to bring in a new manager since they still have half the season to go and they could still achieve a European spot.
