Inter expected to end Marko Arnautovic’s time at the club this summer

Inter are considering shortening Marko Arnautovic’s spell with the club by terminating his contract this summer.

According to a report by La Gazzetta dello Sport via TMW, Inter are set to cut short Marko Arnautovic’s contract with the club this summer. The Austrian joined the Nerazzurri from Bologna last summer as a stopgap option to aid in the club’s hunt for a long-term striker.

Simone Inzaghi’s side paid around 10 million to bring the 34-year-old from the Rossoblu and signed a €3.5 million per year contract with the player for two seasons.

Inter’s idea was to have a veteran backup striker behind the likes of Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram in the squad. However, Arnautovic’s season has been plagued with numerous injuries and underwhelming performances whenever he played.

The league leaders are expected to discuss a possible solution on the matter with the player’s entourage in the coming days and talks are predicted to lead to an early farewell for him.

With Mehdi Taremi set to arrive this summer, Marko Arnautovic is deemed surplus to requirements and his departure is the suitable option for both parties.
