Inter’s Marko Arnautovic on scoring against Altetico Madrid: “One of the most important goals of my career”

Inter striker Marko Arnautovic has revealed that his goal against Atletico Madrid for the Serie A league leaders in the Champions League yesterday was one of his most important goals so far.

The Nerazzurri picked up a rather deserved 1-0 win at the San Siro and while Arnautovic did score, it should’ve been more. The Austrian had missed a sitter some minutes before and was criticised for it. Even otherwise, the striker’s form at the club hasn’t been great since joining in the summer.

Arnautovic spoke to the media after the game and he spoke about his recent form and the goal against the Spanish giants. He acknowledged that he has been struggling in recent days but he is glad to have scored.

He said (via La Gazzetta dello Sport): “I’m not going through an easy moment and I thought it would end badly for me again this time since things weren’t going right. Luckily the ball went in… It’s one of the most important goals of my career and I thank the people who supported me. I’m happy for the team and for mine family who was in the stands.”

The goal against Atleti was Arnautovic’s second of the season in Europe. In the league, he has scored twice and has three assists, but he has faced criticism. Marcus Thuram picked up an injury last night and that could mean that the veteran could get more chances in the next few games.
